Duck Creek Utah is a small mountain community near Cedar Breaks National Monument. The people are very friendly and there are some sights to see in the local area. We’ve been talking about getting a Polaris side by side so we rented one and checked out the Duck Creek area. Below are photos of the Duck Creek Ice Cave.
As we’ve traveled Southern Utah we’ve seen Butch Cassidy’s name on hiking trails and than we happened upon his childhood home from 1880-1884. He was believed to live here from age 14 to age 18. Parked at the house was the wooden wagon plow.
Hell’s Backbone is a gravel road that was cut out through the forest back in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps to connect Escalante Utah and Boulder Utah as a summer time short cut. Its a beautiful 30 to 40 mile drive through different scenery. The whole 2 hour drive on this road I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of 1933 automobile could make it up and over this road and if it did how much of a short cut could it be.
The trail head is located about 20 miles east of Escalante Utah in the Calf Creek Recreation area. The hike is 6 miles round trip and is listed as moderate but most of the hiking on the trail is soft dirt or sand which will challenge your legs. The elevation changes are minimal and the reward is huge. The first 3 photos are aerial views of the canyon where the trail is located. The rest of the photos are views from along the trail as we hiked.
August 2015 was the month we started traveling full time. Since than we’ve been across the United States from coast to coast. What a beautiful Country we live in. This time of year we reflect on where we’ve been, what we’ve learned and what we’re going to do next. We’ll be back to our winter home October 1st, then off to Southern California to visit Mom and from there we’ll head to Northern California to visit our kids. When we come off the road we always look foreword to spending time with family and friends.
We still have a few things to do in Southern Utah like hiking to Calf Creek Falls a 6 mile round trip hike to a waterfall and swimming hole. Hiking the narrows at Zion National Park and taking an ATV trip to Cascade Falls and the ice cave near Duck Creek Utah. Below are some photos from our first 3 years of full-time RVing.

Hiking Red Canyon Utah in the Dixie National Forest.

Red Canyon is the beginning of The All American Road Scenic Highway 12 from the West. I remember the first time I saw the canyon it was breath taking it made me grab my camera and stop in every turn out to shoot this magical landscape that erosion made.
Last week we had a pretty heavy rain storm that cause flash flooding in Red Canyon. The rain washed away part of the bike trail and also closed the road in the canyon for a couple of hours. On our hike a lot of the trails were washed out which made it hard to know where we were going. The gift we were given is seeing the beginning of the landscape hikers will see in the future. The rain had washed away the loose shale and soil and cleared the way for snow and freezing weather to work its magic on the landscape.
With the logo done we’ve been focused on the layout and theme of the website . This a huge learning curve, but we are very happy to be working with Zenfolio.com which is who we went with for our platform. Their customer service is excellent for beginners like us. Also we’re busy uploading about 10,000 photos into our library for you to use to create your Photo Art.

The All-American highway runs about 130 miles between Highway 24 near Torrey Utah and Highway 89 near Panguitch Utah. With all the wildfires in the west the valleys and skies were pretty smokey which doesn’t make for great photography but you can get the idea. Starting from the North we traveled through The Henry Mountains and Grand-Staircase Escalante.
