Coronavirus Gateway to American Socialism.

3 weeks ago we were stuck in a Presidential campaign cycle. We had one candidate I would characterize as a establishment candidate supported by all the politicians that don’t have enough power and have been in our government way to long.  The second candidate is a self proclaimed socialist, who has to be doing back flips based on our governments reaction to the Coronavirus. Lastly we have the current administration that seemed to be for smaller government and more freedom for the individual. Fast foreword 3 weeks and none of that is making news instead we are being force feed fear about a virus that is so deadly we need to social distance ( new label ) to survive. The only problem I have with that is, I would think by now I would know someone who as the virus or died from the virus but I don’t! I do however know a lot of people who have died financially from the government guidelines.

We should think carefully about allowing ourselves to become dependent on our government, one might say selling our sole to the devil. Right now it might seem like a good idea because the government is going to give money to people so they can financially survive this Pandemic. But what will be the real price be for the free money? Lets take our son who is a valet at a local casino that is now closed for 3 weeks. For him he can file for unemployment which sounds great except that 1 week of unemployment doesn’t even cover 1 night of tips. Although the government is feeling pretty good about it’s self I know my son is still worried about how he is going to survive and take care of his family.

Remember this is the oldest marketing strategy in the world; everything is free while you want it, but once you need it, now it becomes expensive. which government do you want;

We the people, by the people, and for the people.

We the government, by ourselves, and for ourselves.

November will be here before we know it. With all this new time we have on our hands hopefully we think about what kind of future we want for our country.

Fear, Healthy or Unhealthy? by Richard Tatro

This is an opinion editorial based solely on my 60 years of life experience, I have no degrees, life has been my educator.

Healthy Fear.

life seems to have no shortage of things to be fearful about but the healthy fear is based in facts. Healthy Fear can change my behaviors that may cause injury like jumping off a cliff. It’s this healthy fear that helps me grow.

Unhealthy Fear.

This type of fear (the fear of the unknown) is the most destructive in my life, if left unchecked it grows into worry and before I know it I’m worried sick about things that may happen but haven’t happened yet and frankly may never happen. This fear seems to be rooted in the unknown. The only thing I’ve found that helps me in these times of uncertainty is to focus on what is true and real. So let me apply this to the current fear that has gripped the world….. Coronavirus!

I figure my best shot of surviving the Coronavirus is;

  1. I need to Remember that politicians and the media believe that you shouldn’t waste a good crisis.
  2. Take personal responsibility. Nobody knows my body better than I do. If I’m feeling tired I should take it easy and rest.
  3. I live in a place where our community is made up of people from all over the Country and Canada. So I have been limiting my exposure to group activities.
  4. I’ve been washing my hands more and trying to limit what I touch.

In the end I will either get the virus or I won’t, that has already been decided. But my best efforts can only go so far and worry will not change that in a positive way.

Selffulfilling prophecy.

If I give myself over to the fear of the unknown and I worry hard enough I can actually unknowingly make the very thing I’m worried about happen. For example going to the grocery store and stocking up on things that I really don’t need for a crisis that hasn’t happen yet. If enough people do that than the price of items go up and it creates shortages. Panic is not my friend!

In the end lets all be safe. Lets employ the “commons” common sense, and common curiosity. We all have different risk factors so lets do the things that keep us safe. Like most things in life this will soon be a memory.

Search and Rescue the Secret Hero’s of the National Park.

June 20, 2018

We decided to hike Peekaboo loop, its a 5.5 mile strenuous hike with an elevation change of 1571 feet. Steep trails with many elevation changes, it has beautiful views from the heart of Bryce Canyon National Park. As we approached the parking area for the trail head we were warned by park personnel that emergency crews were working on Peekaboo trail trying to bring up an injured hiker.

Search & Rescue-1

As we hiked down the trail we came upon a relief crew waiting for the 1st crew to bring the injured hiker to them so they could finish hiking the hiker out.

Search & Rescue-1-2

To watch these men and women do their job was amazing. These are athletes in top physical condition. Watching them ascending the canyon you would think the gurney was on a cloud. The lead persons job is to clear the trail and let the crew behind them know the trail conditions.

Search & Rescue-1-3

The pace that they were traveling was urgent but that gurney with one wheel was steady as can be.

Thank you to all the Men and Women that are Search and Rescue.
