Preparing for the trip.

We’ve had a lot of prep work to do for this trip. Being that we are going to travel a lot of miles this summer we wanted to make sure that both the truck and the fifth wheel are road worthy. We purchased both used as a package in 2015. Both have required maintenance which should be expected, but thankfully repairs have been minimal. We were unhappy with our roadside service so we needed to fine a better solution. Our insurance for the truck and trailer have gone up every policy period (without any claims) so we needed to shop that. Finally we had to replace one of our RV club memberships because we didn’t realize any value from it.

Truck and Trailer

Truck: 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 24 v Cummings Turbo Diesel.

We had the brakes, drive train, and engine check. We were happy that the truck only needed front brakes and valve adjustment.

Trailer: 2005 Keystone Cougar Fifth wheel.

We have an appointment mid May to have the wheel bearings inspected and repacked, brakes inspected, and the black water dump valve replaced.

So whats left to do for prep…. the fun part. The frame work of our summer travels are in place, now we get to decide which route we’ll take and what we want to see along the way.
